The Best SAT Reading Practice Tests and Questions

The Best SAT Reading Practice Tests and Questions SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips When preparing for SAT Reading, it’s crucial to use high-quality practice materials that accurately reflect the content of the real test. In this article, I will go through the best resources for SAT Reading practice materials, both online and in printed prep books. Why Are High-Quality SAT Practice Materials So Important? If you practice with low-quality materials, you’ll end up with low-quality results no matter how long you spend studying. Many test-prep companies release their own versions of SAT questions that are supposedly comparable to questions on the real test.DO NOT use these questions exclusively for practice! The SAT creates questions in a very specific standardized format, and if you’re not used to it, you could be in for a rude awakening on the test.Additionally, using mostly unofficial practice materials will invariably give you a skewed sense of your expected SAT score. You don’t want to think you’re scoring at a certain level and then be faced with a nasty surprise when your scores on the real SAT are much lower. For the Reading section, it’s doubly important to find practice materials that are high quality because there are always two components: the questions and the passages.Even if the questions are in the same format as questions on the real SAT, if the passages aren’t at the same difficulty level, you won’t be getting great practice (and vice versa). On top of using high-quality materials, you should also use realistic time constraints when you take practice tests. If you don’t time yourself accurately, you will not be able to reliably predict your scores on the real test.Time is a huge factor on the SAT, and learning to manage it properly is key to earning a high score. For the SAT Reading section, you'll have 65 minutes to answer 52 questions. In the next couple of sections, I'll list some of the best resources for SAT Reading practice materials. Free Printable Official SAT Reading Practice Tests This first set of printable official practice test PDFsaccurately reflects the material currently covered on the SAT: Practice Test 1:Questions|Answers|Answer Explanations Practice Test 2:Questions|Answers|Answer Explanations Practice Test 3:Questions|Answers|Answer Explanations Practice Test 4:Questions|Answers|Answer Explanations Practice Test 5:Questions|Answers|Answer Explanations Practice Test 6:Questions|Answers|Answer Explanations Practice Test 7:Questions|Answers|Answer Explanations Practice Test 8:Questions|Answers|Answer Explanations Practice Test 9: Questions | Answers| Answer Explanations Practice Test 10: Questions | Answers | Answer Explanations You also have access to four other printable tests that are from before the 2016 SAT redesign. You can still use those if you run out of materials, but keep in mind that the test has changed significantly. Stay familiar with the most up-to-date format and content even if you use some passage-based reading questions from these old tests for practice. Note that Sentence Completion questions are no longer part of the Reading section, so you should skip over them if you're using older practice materials. Official SAT Printable Practice Test 2013-14:Questions|Solutions Official SAT Printable Practice Test 2012-13:Questions|Solutions Official SAT Printable Practice Test 2007-08:Questions|Solutions Official SAT Printable Practice Test 2004-05:Questions|Solutions Online SAT Reading Practice This section goes over the best SAT Reading practice you can find online. It includes both official and unofficial sources. The College Board Official College Board questions are the best way to practice for the SAT, so their online resources in terms of practice questions are the best ones you can find. The website gives you immediate feedback on whether you answered a question correctly as well as answer explanations (though these explanations are not always as thorough as they should be in terms of explaining why wrong answers are wrong). The automatic scoring is great, but it isn’t a substitute for taking a real timed practice test with pencil and paper,so make sure you supplement with printable tests as well. Khan Academy Khan Academy has partnered directly with the College Board, so they useofficial SAT questions to help you practice. That means the materials are some of the best you can find outside of the College Board website itself. You cansign up for a free account here. One negative for this website is that thetotal number of practice questions is limited,so you will probably have to supplement it with other resources. It's especially sparse on Reading questions for the time being. It also doesn't include test-taking strategies, and its lessons and answer explanations aren't quite as in-depth as they should be for students who don't understand the questions. However, it does include multiple videos, which some people find more helpful than written explanations. You canread more about the pros and cons of the Khan Academy program in this article. PrepScholar Not to toot our own horn, but toot.We offer a free five-day trial of our test-prep program. The program will assess your strengths and weaknesses and give you practice questions to fit the specific areas where you need improvement.Basically, it does all the hard work of SAT studying (analyzing your problem areas and zeroing in on where you make the most mistakes) for you! The downside of this is that the questions are technically unofficial, and you do have to pay to sign up for PrepScholar after the free trial. However, our test experts have worked very hard to make the questions as similar to material on the real SAT as possible, and you'll get your money back if you don't improve by 160 points or more. CrackSAT.net There are a ton of free SAT Reading practice tests on this website that you can download. It will give you answer keys along with PDFs of the tests so you can print out, take, and score everything yourself. This means you’re going to have to rely on your own hard work to understand your mistakes, which takes a little more time, but it’s rewarding in the end. Ivy Global Test-prep company Ivy Global offers two full-length unofficial SAT practice tests. Although these tests weren't made by the College Board, theystrongly resemble official SAT practice tests in both form and content. This is a great resource to use if you exhaust all official practice tests but still want some additional SAT Reading practice. SAT Reading Prep Books You can find further practice tests and materials in SAT prep books, although they can also get expensive. The Official SAT Study Guide ("Blue Book") The old edition of this book includes10 official SAT practice tests. If you get that version, you can practice your skills with the passage-based reading questions, which are still relevant today. The version of The Official SAT Study Guide thatwas released for the current SAT(pictured above) is not quite as helpful- it has eight practice tests, but they're already all available online for free. SAT Prep Black Book, Second Edition This book doesn't include its own practice materials, but it's full of great strategic advice for the SAT. The Black Bookreferences questions in the first four official SAT practice tests, so if you buy this book you should also download those four official SAT practice tests (for free!). The Black Book is particularly helpful on the Reading section, with a list of particular meanings of words like "anticipate" or "counter" that you'll need to know to answer Reading passage questions. Itwill also give you in-depth answer explanations for all the sections and insightful tips on how to get around the tricky wording of the questions. The Complete Guide to SAT Reading by Erica Meltzer This book is consistently one of our top picks for SAT Reading prep work.It breaks down the types of questions you’ll see, teaches you the skills you’ll need, and shows you how to consistently eliminate three out of four answers on every question. The sample passages in the book are also high quality, closely resemblingwhat you’ll see on the real SAT, so they’re great for practice! How to Get the Most From Your SAT Reading Practice Tests Now you know where to get the best SAT Reading practice tests, but you also need to know how to use them properly. Below are three tips to help you get the most out of your SAT practice tests and quizzes. Use Strict Timing It'simportant to follow official SAT time limits on practice tests. If you give yourself even just two extra minutes on the SAT Reading section, it could raise your section score significantly. Because you have more time to answer questions, your practice SAT Readingscore becomes inflated and doesn't give you an accurate indicator of your actual ability. The SAT Reading section lasts 65 minutes. That gives you about 75 seconds to answer each of the 52 Reading questions. Stick to this timing when you take practice tests! Review Your Mistakes Practice tests aren't just good for learning the format of the SAT Reading section- they're also great for helping you learn from your mistakes. For every practice SAT Reading section you take, spend time reviewing both questions you got wrong and questions you got right. If you don't know why you missed a question, don't just skip it and move on; doing so will keep you from learning what kind of mistake you made, raising your risk of making it over and over again. This habit can hamper your score pretty drastically. It's better to take three Reading sections with detailed review than 10 sections withoutreview. Don't Forget to Take a Complete SAT Although this article is specifically for SAT Reading practice, you'll want to take at least two complete SATs(and ideally four) during your study program so you'll be prepared for every section and know how well you hold up after several hours of testing. Check out our guide for free and official SAT practice tests. The Concept of Knowledge Management Research Paper

The Concept of Knowledge Management - Research Paper Example This research will begin with the statement that knowledge management refers to the process that organizations often use to capture, develop, share, and utilize the employees’ knowledge capital at all levels of the organization effectively. Organizational learning through knowledge management is a significant source of an organizational competitive advantage since multinational corporates must compete within complex and constantly shift business environments. Organizations can leverage knowledge management in their strategic operations, to make more informed decisions concerning how to organize their value chain operations to maximize customer satisfaction. Knowledge management enables organizations to improve their processes in terms of effectiveness, efficiency, as well as innovativeness, in the creation of value in form of quality products and services for customers. Avoiding wastage, sharing relevant best practices, and conducting corporate learning programs are ways throu gh which the firm can apply knowledge management systems in the sales, marketing, manufacturing, and production processes. Key challenges in the establishment of knowledge management systems within the organizations’ operational structure include the problem of acquiring, modeling, and retrieving, reusing, and publishing, as well as maintaining knowledge. Organizations today are continuously faced with a rapidly shifting global business environment, partly due to globalization and the fast-changing technological advancements, which prompts the need for leadership to respond fast to the increasing complexity and uncertainty. Enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of organizational operations is positively correlated to the overall performance of the firm, and ultimately to the establishment of sustainable profitability and sustainability in the end. Organizations are increasingly adopting a knowledge-learning stance as their strategic approach to alleviating the numerous c hallenges in their operation chains, to achieve their objectives effectively and efficiently.

Abortion of Fetus with Down Syndrome Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Abortion of Fetus with Down Syndrome - Essay Example For instance, these proponents have argued that for a fetus with Down syndrome, it is permissible to carry out abortion. Down syndrome (DS) is a health condition in which superfluous genetic material leads to delays in the mental and physical development. This paper holds that it is morally permissible to abort a fetus with Down syndrome due to various reasons. Apparently, aborting this fetus will save it future pain and suffering once born. In addition, the fetus lacks capacity for making its own decision and does not have the capacity to desire for the continuation of its existence. Moreover, the fetus lacks more developed person-like features and it lacks fully developed rights to life (Warren, 2004). Moral issues surrounding abortion. The issue of terminal conditions and abortion accrues from the idea of active euthanasia. Marquis (1989) indicates that the overall issue of killing a person who is terminally ill to save him or her from pain is sometimes not justifiable. This accrues from the premise that death is more painful that all other forms of physical pain. On the other hand, he claims that it is not generally wrong to kill the person who would die anyway. Under this premise, it is then not morally wrong to abort or terminate a fetus suffering from a terminal condition such as Down syndrome. This raises the proposition that aborting might be illegal but considering the moral responsibility concerning terminal conditions, it becomes morally justifiable. ... He adds that the parents of these children undergoes through hard financial strains while trying to provide adequate treatment to them. It is under this notion that it becomes morally permissible to abort a fetus that will probably bring about these problems once born. This premise asserts that it is not morally wrong to terminate a life that would otherwise go through pain and bring strain. He adds that there is a difference between terminally ill adult individuals and a fetus with a severe condition. This is in the sense that the adult individual can make a decision for himself or herself while the fetus does tot have the capacity to make its own decision. This therefore supports the claim that it is vital to make the decision on behalf of the fetus, thus becoming morally acceptable to abort it. On the other hand, Marquis (1989) indicates that some opponents of this issue would claim that it is not right to kill a terminally ill person due to his or her future value. Under this pre mise, the opponents would argue that this should be the same in the case of a fetus with Down syndrome. However, this assertion fails in the sense that a fetus is not fully ripe to realize its value in the future. Though there might be some innate value in the baby, there is no justification that it would add value in the future. This premise rests entirely in the public opinion but not in the reality of the issue. Another strong view in proposing the issue of aborting a 16 week- fetus with Down syndrome rests in the incompleteness of the person-like feature of the fetus. It is very evident that even though opponents of abortion argue that the fetus is a human being, it lacks unquestionable features to make it person-like. For instance, Warren (2004)

Change Insight Analysis Paper Essay Example for Free

Change Insight Analysis Paper Essay Managing change is an ideal process in organizational management and greatly helps in realization of organizational goals and objectives. In business, change insight management is analyzed by different theoretical models that are essential in business process. As a result, this paper analyzes the three basic change models theories. These are discussed as follows: The Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model, The Marvin Weisbord’s Six Model and the Linda Ackerman Anderson’s 9 Phase. The three theoretical models on change management discuss the various strategies of managing and coping with organizational change. In particular, the strengths and weakness of each model are analyzed. Further the application of each theoretical model on change management in an organizational setting is discussed. Kotters 8-Step Change Model See more: analytical writing In business change is the only constant. John Kotter, a change expert and a professor of Harvard business school and a renowned leadership and management guru. In his book, leading change, Kotter discussed the 8-Step Model to change management as follows: The first step is creation of urgency. In order for change to happen, the whole organization must be in dire need of the organizational change. Thus, the leadership and management must develop the need for change among the members of the team. In administering change in an organization, the management is expected to identify the potential threats to develop scenarios that indicate the possible projections on what can happen in future. The other step in management of change involves the formation of a powerful coalition. This is attained by convincing people that change is necessary and important. This must take strong leadership efforts and activities to implement. To achieve this, the leadership and management team must ask for emotional commitment, work with the team building in change coalition as well as evaluating the team for weak areas to enhance a good mix for of different people from different departments. The third step in the Kotter’s Model of change management involves creation of vision for change. At this point, the leadership management must determine the values that are essential for change, create a short summary and have a strategy that is applicable in attainment of the expected changes. Communication for buy in is the next  step in achieving organizational change, others step include and not limited to the following: Empowering action, creation of short term wins, do not let up and make the change stick. The Applicability of the Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model The Kotter’s change model is applied in all top-down change processes. For instance, for the projects that have been identified and decided, at the top level of the organizational management. Indeed, the United States Army used the model to prepare their soldiers at the war. The Strengths of the Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model This theoretical model on change management is characterized by the following strengths: First, it is easy to understand, it can well fit into the culture of classical hierarchies, it is well successful when all the steps are applied and exercised. Further, the model focuses on the employee buy in as it focuses on success. The Weaknesses of the Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model To start with, the model is too linear to an extent of leading to wrong assumptions. Second, it is difficult to change the directions of the model when action has already started. Third, the model can result to frustration among the employees when the initial stages of grief and the needs of individuals are not taken care of. The Marvin Weisbord’s Six-Box Model The six-box model of managing organizational change is a leadership and management framework that was developed by an American business analyst Marvin Weisbord with the main aim of assessing the organizational functioning. Its key generic framework in management of organizational change is intended for use and application in a variety of different organization. The Model has its key basis on the assumptions and techniques of the field organizational change and development. The Six-box Model constitute of the following boxes: Purpose that includes a clear definition of the business that an organizations in, structure that explains on the dimension of dividing work among employees, relationships that encompass the techniques of managing all the possible changes in relationships, rewards that constitutes of the definition on incentives and what needs to be done,  leaderships that involves selection of change managers who will help in keeping the five boxes in balance as well as the he lpful mechanisms that are applicable in coordination of the technologies that are necessary in management and leadership. The Application of Marvin Weisbord’s Six-Box Model This model is applicable in organizations where there is a need to look or consider the organizational structures and designs in a specified way. Indeed, the model is applicable in areas of change management that needs planning, rewards, incentives, and the role of support functions that include international organizations, partnerships and standards of remunerations. In addition, the model is particularly useful at times when consultation have little time that is desirable for diagnosis or when a relatively less complicated organizational map is required for quick service. The Strengths of the Marvin Weisbord’s Six-Box Model The first strength of the model is attributed to the fact that the model is the most suitable in helping the change leadership development manager to effectively visualize the organization as a whole system without using key and strange change terminologies. The other strength that is associated with the model is in its easy application. Indeed, the model is easily understandable and can be well applied by any change manager who can actively engage in change development. The Weaknesses of the Marvin Weisbord’s Six-Box Model The Marvin Weisbord’s Six-Box model has the following weaknesses. First, the model is only applicable in organizations that are constituted by the six boxes. This mean that organizations that are not characterized by the above discussed components can not effective apply the model in management of change leadership. Moreover, the model is weak because it cannot be conveniently applied to manage organizational change in organizations with complex organizational structures. Linda Ackerman Anderson and Dean Anderson 9 Phase Model on Change Leadership Roadmap Methodology This is a model of managing organizational change that is mainly rooted in the change in leadership road map. The theoretical model is sidelined in the designation  and the implementation of the major organizational transformations. The main question analyzed by the model is on the availability of a roadmap that is needed by an organization in realizing change. The first phase of the model is preparation to lead the change. Here, the organizational leadership selects the leaders that are needed to change the organization in order to attain the organizational success. This is the most important phase because it addresses the key process of the decision making in the efforts of change administration. The main purpose of this phase is to prepare the leaders to lead the change in accomplishment of six main activities. The two basic activities out of the six main activities are outlined as follows: Staffing and starting up the change efforts with the use of change expertise in leadership, determination of the case for change and the exact scope of the change and the expected outcomes. The other phases of this model include creation of commitment, organizational vision and capability, assessment of situation in determination of design requirements, plan and design the implementation of the change activities, implement the required organizational change, celebrate and integrate the new state on change management as well as learning and course correcting the change. The Application of Ackerman Anderson 9 Phase Model This model is applicable in offering the specialized change leadership development as well as transformational leadership in organizations that are consulting on change. Indeed, the founders of the model are the owners of Being First, Inc., a company that has adopted the model to guide and advice Fortune 1000 companies, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and international change consultancies that are in need of assistance in change leadership management and transformational leadership. The Strengths of the Ackerman Anderson 9 Phase Model There are several strengths that are associated with the Ackerman Anderson 9 phase model. First, the model is useful in attaining favorable tangible results that a firm is after in administration of change. This is achieved faster will little or no costs in the business or people. In addition, the model helps in building an organization change skills and capabilities. This greatly helps to consistently realize the maximum benefits realized from a  successful change. Moreover, the model is helpful in transforming the organizational culture and the people in an organization. This is essential in attainment of the desired organizational change. Furthermore, the model is evidenced by its strengths in the development of the mangers and leaders to become competent in transforming the organization to realize the needed organizational change. Most important, the model is applied in the development of internal consultants to become an expert change consultants’. Notably, the Ackerman Anderson 9 phase model of change management in ensuring all the possible change strategy development and process planning. This is because change strategy development and the process of planning are essential for complex change transformation. The Weaknesses of Ackerman Anderson 9 Phase Model Irrespective of the numerous strengths of the model, its key weaknesses cannot be underestimated. These are described as follows: First, skipping a phase in the change leadership roadmap or a key decision leads to numerous impacts that can dismantle all the established changes. Moreover, failure to customize the change process can result to discouragement on the identity of the customers in respect to the best change practices. Conclusion Change insight analysis is essential in managing organizational change. This is because of the available theoretical models that play an essential role in leadership and transformational development. The essential three models include and not limited to the following: Ackerman Anderson 9 phase model, Marvin Weisbord’s Six-Box model and the Kotter’s 8 Step Change model. All the three models are applicable in different ways and each consists of its strengths and weaknesses.

Essay --

In Homer’s epic The Odyssey a powerful symbol is the dual role of food. Throughout the novel, food was apart of their culture but it also represents situations in which feasting was a form of temptation. There were many feast and celebrations because hospitality was very important in their culture. It ranged from feasting of wine, meat, and bread, and even cheese. Food becomes a test for the weak, and sick men who accompanies Odysseus along the journey. The temptation began when Odysseus men did not return home after the war. It was first shown by the Lotus Eaters. The Lotus Eaters are people who do nothing at all during the day and sit and fulfill their appetites on this appealing plant. In result of them eating the plant they tend to become very lazy and forget their intended task, which was to get back home to Ithaca. Due to them falling into temptation Odysseus had to pull them himself back to the ship. His men fall prey to this food, and you can conclude that Odysseus’ men lack self-control. Along the journey Odysseus’ men are constantly tempted by food but the gluttony come...

A Deserted Village

He stood there by the road after three long decades overlooking the land which he once called his evergreen village of Ago. Then, it was a haven of peace, now, only a hub for centralization and a fast moving life. A village which was once covered with a never ending evergreen canopy and vast stretches of lush green fields now stood there naked with a concrete Jungle of buildings and structures and barren fields. A tear rolled down Padres Bernadine old wrinkled scarred cheek seeing the fate of his village. He couldn't console of something so dear that he had lost.He started walking the winding road down the hill, towards his village, taking one agonizing step at a time. The padre could still vividly hear the shouts and cries of laughter of his childhood days that he spent with his friends playing and plucking fruits and all the adventurous exploits they enjoyed doing on this very hill and the assistant church bell chimes, reminding the village folk the time for prayer and the children as well, so as to be back home before the † angelus† or else get † Main's adaptation† ( grandma's shouting) or if worse † matcher Dimmit† ( kneeling on salt). The hill now deserted and the church bell not to be heard with all the hype and bizarre traffic noise. He stopped abruptly on his trail, not wanting to Journey further to the place which he dreaded the most now. Already maimed and not wanting to be more, he diverted and mapped his way onto the hillside, off the road to a special spot where he spent much of his quality time as a youth. It overlooked the entire village, the church, the fields, a perfect panoramic view that would soothe a tense mind and soul. He sat there by himself on a rock, which was a tablet on which were the faint inscriptions of the past, the names of his peers and his, now worn out over the years.
